Kassanda Gold Project
Uganda, Kassanda
Project Summary
Geological Overview
The Exploration License under application falls within the known Bismuto – tantalite at Nampewo (Busologanyi Estate) in the Mubende – Mityana gold region attributed to Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary Rwenzori Fold Belt in Central Western Uganda. The Paleoproterozoic Rwenzori fold belt (2.1 – 1.85 Ga) constitutes the Ugandan segment of a system of fold belts wrapping around the Tanzania craton.
The rocks comprise a cover sequence of the Buganda metavolcano – sedimentary rocks estimated at 2.0 Ga, deposited on Archean and Paleoproterozoic basement gneiss with a U/Pb on zircon age of 2147 t/- 16 Ma. These rocks were intruded by two generations of granitoids; the oldest granitoids are attributed to the Sembubule Suite with a U/Pb zircon age of 1987 +/- 5 Ma and 1964 +/- 4Ma, and the younger Mubende-Singo Suite with a U/Pb zircon age of 1848 +/- 6 Ma and Rb/Sr age on biotite of 1.8 Ga. These rocks are known to contain a variety of gold and base metal mineralization where most artisanal workings are within the same formation. The region in general has been an area of interest by various researchers and mineral prospectors due to its favourable geology and wide range of mineral resources.
